Back in December, GPB confirmed that Nika Kocharov and Young Georgian Lolitaz had been internally selected to represent Georgia at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in the host city of Stockholm.

Following the artist announcement, GPB opened submissions for songwriters in a search for the next Georgian song entry. Receiving over 100 entries, GPB shortlisted a final total of 5 entries which were then presented to the public in February. A public vote opened following the song presentation in which the Georgian public had over a week to vote for their favourite entry.

Midnight gold was selected to represent the nation at the upcoming contest following a combined televote-jury vote. Whilst the jury ranked Midnight gold in second position, the entry was a clear favourite with the public after receiving a total of 1310 votes, over 1000 more than the second places entry.
