Estonia: It’s Jüri Pootsmann to Stockholm!

Estonia has spoken! Jüri Pootsmann will represent the Baltic country at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest after winning national selection show Eesti Laul with Play.

An ERR (Eesti Rahvusringhääling) production, the Grand Final of Eesti Laul 2016 saw ten acts take to the Saku Suurhall stage in Tallinn in a bid to win the right to represent Estonia at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, Sweden.

Following a three act Super Final against Laura and Cartoon feat. Kristel AaslaidJüri Pootsmann was crowned the champion of Eesti Laul 2016. The Super Final acts were determined via a combination of Jury and public televotes, with the Super Final decided using televoting only.

Presented by Ott Sepp and Märt Avandi, the show was streamed via err.ee and eurovision.tv. Russian language commentary was available via err.ee/k/etvpluss. Twitter participation was encouraged using the hashtag “#EestiLaul2016” .

The Grand Final of Eesti Laul 2016 saw a special performance from Maarja-Liis Ilus and Ivo Linna to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their Eurovision classic of 1996, Kaelakee hääl. Finnish teen sensation Isac Elliot also performed during the interval.

Estonia was last represented at the Eurovision Song Contest by Elina Born and Stig Rästa, who took Goodbye to yesterday to an impressive seventh place finish in Vienna 2015.
