Watch now: Heat 2 of Melodifestivalen 2016

by Alex Noone 378 views

Tonight, the second heat of Sweden’s Melodifestvalen will be broadcast live from Malmö Arena. Seven acts will compete for two places in the competition’s Andra Chansen, or second chance, round this coming 5 March, and for two places in the Melodifestivalen grand final a week later. But which acts will crash and burn? And which will get one step closer to Melodifestivalen victory, and to representing Sweden at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm?

Swedish TV presenter Gina Dirawi will host tonight’s event from Malmö Arena where, three years ago, Denmark’s Emmelie de Forrest won the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. Dirawi’s presenting duties were due to be shared with Melodifestivalen and Eurovision winner, Charlotte Perrelli. But because of Perrelli’s commitments to a local advertising campaign, she will now perform as part of the show’s interval act instead.

Singer Krista Siegfrids will this week take a break from her role as host of Finland’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu to compete in tonight’s heat of Melodifestivalen. She is no stranger to Malmö Arena, having represented Finland at the venue as part of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013.

Of tonight’s seven acts, two will qualify for the grand final on 12 March and a further two will compete again in the competition’s second chance round a week before on 5 March.
