European telecommunications operator Tele2 has been chosen by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as the Official Mobile Operator of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Tele2 was founded in Sweden, and the company has more than 30 million customers worldwide. Being chosen as Official Mobile Operator of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, Tele2 has been allowed extensive association, event and (new) media rights, spanning Europe. Tele2 will work in partnership with Swedish broadcaster SVT. On behalf of the EBU, Jon Ola Sand, the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, says:

Having a reliable communications infrastructure is key to the success of the event since it allows us to engage millions through televoting and means that we can reach out to those watching the event online throughout the rest of the world.

Thomas Ekman, CEO of Tele2 Sweden, comments:

Tele2 is already a natural part of Eurovision Song Contest since the whole area around the Globe Arena will be central to the event. The Tele2 Arena is a venue where we can engage our customers and all other visitors. We welcome all ESC fans to the world’s most modern arena. Through our technology, experiences and feelings can be shared, extended and amplified. As a partner to the ESC, we are given even more possibilities to create something unique and ground-breaking. We will elevate this event to a whole new level.

In collaborating with Tele2, the EBU and the Eurovision Song Contest continue their history of connecting to new technology, reaching out to the worldwide community.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 will take place on 10, 12 and 14 May 2016 in Stockholm’s Globe Arena, Sweden.
