Sister Cristina, the winner of The Voice of Italy 2014, has recently expressed her interest in competing in the biggest Italian music competition, the Sanremo Music Festival, with the possibility of going on to represent Italy at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
Since winning the second season of The Voice of Italy back in 2014, Cristina Scuccia, also known as Suor Cristina or Sister Cristina, has gone on to release 2 singles as well as her debut album Sister Cristina which charted in both Belgium and France as well as her home country, Italy. Over the next few months, the Italian singer will embark on a small tour where she will visit a number of countries including Vietnam, Malta and Australia.
In recent weeks, it has been reported on a number of news sites that Sister Cristina would like to compete in the Sanremo Music Festival in the future. Speaking to La Repubblica last week about a possible participation in the Italian event, Sister Cristina revealed:
I would like to compete and, among so many songs, I think I also have the right song.
The following week in an interview with All Music Italia when asked about the recent Sanremo rumours, Sister Cristina went on to say:
I would love to sing at the Sanremo Music Festival. For now, I will only say this!
Noting that winning the Sanremo Music Festival could open the doors to a participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, All Music Italia went on to ask Sister Cristina about the possibility of representing Italy at the European contest:
I think it’s wonderful that there is a festival in which different ethnic nations bring their experience and their common reality together. I love that you do all this through music!
The 2016 Sanremo Music Festival will take place from the 9 to the 13 February 2016 at the Ariston Theatre. As with the previous year, the winning artist of the Campioni category will be eligible to represent Italy at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in the host city of Stockholm, Sweden.
