Estonia: Eesti Laul 2016 acts revealed on 5 November

ERR, the Estonian national broadcaster, has revealed that the names of the acts which will compete in the Estonian national selection Eesti Laul 2016 will be revealed on the 5 November.

Following a song submission period, which will end next month on the 2 November at 14:00 CET (15:00 local time), a professional jury selected by ERR will then go on to meet for two consecutive days on the 4 and 5 November in order to decide which of the 20 acts will compete in the forthcoming Estonian national selection, Eesti Laul 2016.

The names of the 20 acts are set to be revealed on the 5 November at 18:00 CET (19:00 local time) during the ETV show Ringvaade as well as via the official ERR website. Participants then have until the 11 December to publish their entries publicly.

Eesti Laul 2016 will consist of 3 televised shows; 2 semi-finals which will take place on the 13 and 20 February 2016 and a Grand Final which will take place on the 5 March 2016. Ten participants will compete in each of the semi-finals in which 5 acts will qualify to the Grand Final, therefore a total of 10 acts will compete in the Eesti Laul 2016 Grand Final. The Estonian representative will be selected via a 50/50 televote-jury deliberation.

Eesti Laul 2016 dates

  • 13/02: Semi-final 1 (10 competitors, 5 qualifiers)
  • 20/02: Semi-final 2 (10 competitors, 5 qualifiers)
  • 05/03: Grand Final (10 finalists)

This year, Elina Born & Stig Rästa were selected to represent Estonia at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in the host city of Vienna, Austria. Qualifying to the Grand Final, Elina & Stig ended in a respectable 7th position with their entry Goodbye to yesterday.
