According to escsweden.com the four wild cards for Meldofestivalen 2008, the Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, will be revealed next Tuesday 15th January. The entries will join the 28 songs already chosen. SVT have confirmed the announcement will be made at a press conference at 10:00 CET.

Four semi finals will take place and seven spots in each heat are already filled, one wild card entry will be added to each heat. You can find the complete current line-up here. In the last few years, wildcard entries proved to be very succesful: The Ark won the national final in 2007,BWO finished secondin 2006 with AndreasJohnson coming third (he won the voting of the regional juries) while Nanne Grönvall was thewinner of the televote in 2005 but finished second overall.

With the possible Lena/Orup duet no longer an option, media speculation is rife that Carola and Andreas Johnson will now enter the competition with the song One Love. Whilst esctoday.com understands that this is not yet confirmed and no contracts are signed, it is very much a possibility. Carola's english language website, CarolaInternational.com is also discussing the media interest without issuing a denial.

Should this prove to be the case, the duo will become the odds favourite to take the Swedish ticket to Belgrade. Carola has won the competetition three times and taken second place once. Andreas Johnson has finished third and second in the last two years respectively. Should the media speculation prove to be correct, it is almost certain that the unification of two of the biggest names in Swedish music would win the Swedish televote, meaning only the jury could prevent their victory.

Other rumoured wildcards include a duet for Mans Zelmerlow and Agnes (both former Pop Idol contestants in Sweden) and 16 year old child prodigy, Amy Diamond. Every year, media speculation about the participants and wildcards at Melodifestivalen hits overdrive, and there are usually some surprises.
