Eurovision 2014: Italy will most likely participate in Copenhagen

Italy will most likely compete at the forthcoming 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, next May. An official confirmation is yet to be made by the Italian broadcaster regarding its participation at the contest.

The method and mechanism  that Italy will use in order to select its Eurovision representative is yet to be determined, if the country is to compete in the event next year.

The story so far

Since its return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, Italy has selected its Eurovision representatives via the Sanremo Song Festival: Raphael Gualazzi (2011), Nina Zilli (2012) and Marco Mengoni (2013).

Italy debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest  in 1956 and was one of the founder members of the contest. The country has won the event 2 times in 1964 and 1990. Italy withdrew from the event in 1998 and returned back in 2011.

This year  the winner of the 2013 Sanremo Song Festival, Marco Mengoni was selected to represent Italy at the  2013 Eurovision Song Contest . Marco achieved a 7th place with his Sanremo winning entry L’Essenziale in Malmo.

Sweden, DenmarkFinland, Norway, Albania, Iceland, Ireland, San Marino, Georgia, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Estonia, Malta, Russia, Germany, AustriaFYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Belgium, Spain and Latvia have all confirmed their participation at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest next year in Denmark. Whilst Italy, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary, Lithuania and Slovenia have said they will most likely be in the competition.
