Iceland – deadline 16th November

Icelandic broadcaster, RUV, has set a submission deadline of 16th November 2006 for songwriters to enter for Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007, the national selection show to find the Iceland entry for the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. The final of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins will be held in February, the exact date is to be confirmed.

RUV have now published the rules for selection and application forms to enter the competition. Songs will only be accepted from Icelandic composers, or people livinginIceland as of 1stOctober 2006and must be written in Icelandic. There is of course a provision for the winning song to be translated into other languages, as permitted by the EBU, for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.

All rules, 23 in total, are valid from 1st Septemberof this year, although RUV reserve the right to change them at any time. No song can have been played or performed publicly before 1st October 2006.

A committee named by Sjónvarpið (the TV division of RÚV) will select 24 entries for participation in semi finals. The selection of the 24 songs will take place before December 20th. There willbe a final, and it is likely that the semifinal willbe held in January/February 2007.RUV have not yet confirmed dates. and theselection format has not yet been officially announced.

The show will again be produced by BaseCamp Productions, who were the production company behind last year's national finals, which Silvia Night famously won.

Iceland will participate in the semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 10th 2007 after Silvia Night failed to qualify for the grand final in Athens this year.
