We have some very sad news from Portugal , the 1992 Portuguese Eurovision hopeful Dina has passed away today aged 62.

Dina was a well known Portuguese singer and composer who represented Portugal at the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo with her unique song ‘ Amor de Água Fresca‘. The song was composed by one of Portugal’s most celebrated composers Rosa Lobato Faria.

Dina had been fighting against lung fibrosis since 2006, she passed away last night at Lisbon’s Hospital Pulido Valente.

The 1992 Portuguese Eurovision hopeful was born on 18 June 1956 in Carregal do Sal, Viseu, Portugal. She started her musical career at a very young age partaking in musical plays and concerts.

Dina first competed at Festival da Cançao in 1980 when she placed 8th in the Portuguese national final with her song Guardado em Mim. She won the New artist Award at FdC 1980 that year. She returned to the Portuguese national selection in 1982 with two songs.

In 1992 Dina won the Festival da Cançao and represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo with Amor de Agua Fresca, achieving a 17th place in the competition.

Dina will be always remembered for her great voice and career, she leaves a great repertoire behind her having released 6 albums and composed music for many television series and movies. She celebrated the 30th anniversary of her musical career in 2009 with a special concert at Lisbon’s  Jardim de Inverno do Teatro São Luiz.
