Bulgaria’s national broadcaster, BNT, has confirmed that four cities have officially submitted their bids to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. Burgas, Varna, Plovdiv, and the capital city Sofia are all vying for the opportunity to stage the prestigious international music event, following Bulgaria’s victory in 2026.
The race to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Bulgaria is officially underway, with four prominent cities submitting their candidacies. Burgas, Varna, Plovdiv, and the capital city Sofia have all put forward their proposals to BNT, the national broadcaster responsible for Bulgaria’s participation and hosting of the contest.
This exciting development follows Bulgaria’s historic win at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, where DARA secured the victory with her song ‘Bangaranga’. The Bulgarian government has already demonstrated its commitment to hosting, allocating 20 million euro in the draft Budget 2027 for the preparations.
Each of these vibrant Bulgarian cities will now present its vision and capabilities to host the large-scale international music event. Hosting Eurovision demands significant infrastructure, including a suitable venue with a large capacity, extensive accommodation options, and robust logistical support to manage thousands of delegates, press, and fans.
BNT’s selection process is expected to be comprehensive, as a working group evaluates which location can best meet the rigorous requirements set by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for staging the contest. The final decision on the host city is anticipated by the end of July. This marks the first time Bulgaria will host the Eurovision Song Contest.
The competition moves to the next phase – evaluation of the applications.
BNT’s General Director Ms. Milena Milotiva says:
BNT is looking for not just a place to hold the biggest music event, but a partner city that will walk the whole way with us until May 2027. We have created a working group to evaluate the proposals. It starts working from Monday according to the clear criteria and standards of the EBU. We will inform you in stages
