The Netherlands: Hosting plan for 2020 in place if Duncan Laurence wins in Tel Aviv

The Netherlands are ready to host the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest and have a hosting plan in place if Duncan Laurence wins the competition in Tel Aviv this year according to the local media.

Duncan Laurence is currently the bookie’s hot favourite to win the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, having gained much praise and popularity both at home and overseas thanks to his Eurovision entry ‘Arcade‘.

According Dutch news channel RTL Niews  The Netherlands is ready to host the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest if Duncan Laurence walks away with the coveted  Eurovision trophy in Tel Aviv next May, and that there is already a plan of action in place, if the country wins the competition.

A spokesperson from NPO told RTL Boulevard:

There is a plan with regard to the main points, but we will only really start working on it the day after the Netherlands have won the contest.

Regarding the financing of the competition the spokesperson added:

We will  look  into it together with the EBU.

Organizing the Eurovision Song Contest today entails a financial and logistical challenge, as the competition requires a lot of pre-planning and the amount of participating countries has grown drastically since 1956. Today circa 40 odd countries partake in the competition.

According to RTL Boulevard the Dutch have had a hosting plan in the closet for many years now in case they are to win the contest. This year it seems that the Dutch might achieve their 5th Eurovision victory if the bookies’s current predictions come true.

The Netherlands in Eurovision

The Netherlands debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 in Lugano, and was one of the founder members of Europe’s favourite television show. The Dutch have won the competition four times: 1957, 1959, 1969 and 1975.

The country has had the honour of hosting the event on four occasions: 1958, 1970, 1976, 1980.

The Dutch have partaken 59 times in Europe’s favorite television show.

In 2019 The Netherlands selected Duncan Laurence to fly the Dutch flag at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv.

 

The Netherlands are set to compete in the Second Semi-final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest on 16 May in Tel Aviv.
