Hello everybody, Baku calling! There in the Caucasus, Azerbaijan is among the last countries to decide upon and reveal their 2019 Eurovision act. Ahead of this on Friday 8 March, the country’s broadcaster Ictimai TV decided to tease us with a short video!

She is a killer…?

Although neither an artist’s name nor a song title are confirmed in this teaser, we may get a taste of the Azerbaijani entry to this year’s Eurovision. It all seems that we are going to witness a strong performance, which aspires to bring Azerbaijan back to the Grand Final, after their first ever elimination last year. At the video’s end, the phrase “She is a killer” appears. Where could this refer?

When making some official statements in February, the Azeri Head of Delegation, Husniye Maharramova, had decided to shed more light on their 2019 Eurovision plans. Then, she talked about the castings held at the broadcaster’s offices and disclosed the names of the 4 shortlisted artists that were under consideration. These were:

  • Tofiq Haciyev
  • Chingiz Mustafayev
  • Leman Dadasheva
  • Samira Efendi

Who of them do you think is the one? Is this teaser a sign that Azerbaijan can claim a high position on this year’s scoreboard?

Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2018

Last year, Azerbaijan was represented by the young singer AISEL, who was also internally selected by the Azeri broadcaster Ictimai TV. AISEL performed the song X my heart, written by Dimitris Kontopoulos, Tim Bran and Sandra Bjurman. The country placed 11th in the first semi-final, thus failing to qualify for the Grand Final for the first time in its Eurovision history.

This year, Azerbaijan will be competing in the second half of the second semi-final on 16 May.
