Despite hearing some good news about Eurovision 2018 in the week, there has been also an announcement that concerns Portugal’s winner, Dina, in 1992 RTP Festival da Canção.

Portugal entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1992, held in Malmö, Sweden, with Dina with the song Amor d’água fresca after she won the Portuguese national final, Festival da Canção 1992.

At Eurovision, she was placed 17th, with 26 points, out of 23 participating countries.

Diagnosis post-Eurovision

Dina was diagnosed 12 years ago with severe lung fibrosis and urgently needs a lung transplant. The clinical evolution has not been favourable and has worsened in recent times.

The 61-year old artist discovered she was sick after experiencing severe chest pain and having difficulty breathing.

In an interview with TV7 Dias, she referred to her need of having a bottle of oxygen 24 hours a day to breathe in order to stay alive:

It limits me a lot. You do not have the strength for a lot of things.

Dina is currently awaiting a compatible donor before the singer can undergo the needed lung transplant, with the lung size needing to be of a similar diameter in to fit within the patient’s rib cage.
