Jamala, the 2016 Eurovision winner from Ukraine has released the official videoclip of her ESC winning entry 1944 on 22 September.

1944’s videoclip features many dancers and was filmed in the Chernivtsi region located in the west of Ukraine. The video has been directed by Anatoliy Sachivko and filmed by Nikita Kuzmenko.

The 2016 Eurovsion winner Jamala sheds more light on her latest videoclip:

When Anatoliy presented his vision for the new video for 1944, we didn’t hesitate to work with them again. Sonia Soltes who created the style of the characters was a fantastic contributor! Her unique and independent styling was perfect for the project. It was a pleasure to work with Anatoliy Sachivko and Nikita Kuzmenko again following the success of our last collaboration, Confused.

Jamala reveals some facts about the filming of 1944:

This video was the hardest to shoot to date!It was showering all the time and there was a fog so thick, that even a strong wind could not dispel it… It was also FREEZING! The day before we started shooting the sun was shining bright. Nature gave us big challenges but once we saw the finished piece it was so worth it and actually aided with the feel and atmosphere!

The official videoclip of 1944 was filmed at the abandoned Pamir military base located on Tomatik mountain.

Jamala shares her experience:

It took us 2 hours to climb up Tomatik mountain, and it took even longer to descend. The cold rain was pouring on us, and we took any chance to get warm by the oven and dry our clothes. It felt like a luxury to have a nice hot meal, as we had to make our own fire up there, like prehistoric people, which the weather made close to impossible! The lovely local people brought us some honey and herbal tea. People from the whole area came to see us and what we were filming

Jamala won the hearts of Europe when she triumphed at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm last May.

The Ukrainian star has gone places since her Eurovision victory, she has been travelling Europe promoting her music, songs and Ukraine. Jamala will also be on the jury pannel at the forthcoming 2017 Ukrainian Eurovision national selection.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 9, 11 and 13 May in Kyiv, Ukraine.
