Sweden: Anton, Joy & Linnea invade South Korea’s music scene

While nothing special happens in the Eurovision music scene, things do happen in other parts of the world. Anton Malmberg Hård Af Segerstad, Joy Deb and Linnea Deb, the team behind numerous Melodifestivalen hits and Sweden’s 2015 winning entry Heroes, are currently topping the South Korean charts with Free somebody by Luna.

Luna is a well-known artist in South Korea, mostly as the lead singer of the girl-band f(x), managed by SM Entertainment. As the girls often release solo-work, Free somebody is Luna’s first debut EP, featuring a main track under the same title, that was released a bit more than a week ago.

Scandinavians and Europeans are frequently responsible for K-Pop hits, but this is the first time that a significant Eurovision-known team takes the step towards the Asian country. Among the Melodifestivalen entries by ‘The Family’, we can find Don’t worry, Hunger, My heart wants me dead, I will wait, Busy doin’ nothin’, You and much more.

Free somebody stands now 3rd in the Billboard US World Albums chart and 5th in the Korean Gaon Albums chart. As with every leading song in South Korea, the song is promoted in a variety of live music chart shows every week, and it is yet to win the first prize in one of them. Could Free somebody be a good Eurovision entry? Have a listen!
