esctoday.com awards: Europop and semi final act results

The polls for the third annual esctoday.com awards closed at midnight CET and now it is time to reveal the results, which are traditionally made public on Christmas Eve, 24th December. We continue with the categories Best act not to qualify from the semi finals and Most traditional Europop song of the year.

The 2008 esctoday.com award for Best act not to qualify from the semi finals goes to…

  • PAOLO MENEGUZZI of Switzerland for Era stupendo

Paolo Meneguzzi's entry Era stupendo was an early favourite in the frequentesctoday.com polls. Like inrecent years, both the singer and song that represented Switzerland had been chosen internally by the broadcaster. It was the first Swiss entry performed in Italian since 2000 and it carried the hopes of the country that has only managed to finish in the top ten once in the past 15 years. However, it finished 13th out of 18 contestants in the second semi final with 47 points. Last year, this award was won by Evridiki from Cyprus, who had finished 15th in the semi final.

The 2008 esctoday.com award for Most traditional Europop song goes to…

  • HERO by Charlotte Perrelli of Sweden

1999 Eurovision Song Contest winner Charlotte Perelli had to follow a winded road to reach the Eurovision Song Contest final 2008. While she won the fourth semi final of Swedish Melodifestivalen by a landslide, she only finished second in the televote of the final but still made it to Belgrade because of the jury vote. In the second semi final, shereached 12th placebut still made it to the final being again saved by jury.Hero eventually finished 18thwith 47 points. In 2007, this award went to the Dutch entry On top of the world.
