Ireland: Nicky Byrne signs record deal with Universal Music Ireland

Irish Eurovision 2016 representative Nicky Byrne has signed his first solo record deal with Universal Music Ireland. The artist revealed this on Twitter.

Nicky Byrne, who will represent Ireland at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, Sweden, has announced that he has signed his first contract as a solo artist with Universal Music Ireland. The former Westlife star is very excited about this new development in his musical career, as he said on Twitter, posting a picture of the signing:

As part of Weslife, Nicky Byrne has sold over 45 million records worldwide, seven albums of the group landing the number one position on the album charts, 25 top ten singles in the United Kingdom alone, 14 of which topped number one. After his career with Westlife, Nicky Byrne focussed mainly on his role as TV and radio host. He also delivered the Irish votes during the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

On 13 January 2016, Irish broadcaster RTÉ confirmed that Nicky Byrne had been internally chosen to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2016. The artist will perform the song Sunlight. The official release date for Sunlight is 12 February 2016, with Nicky Byrne performing the song for the first time live on the Ray Darcy Show, on 13 February 2016. Nicky Byrne (born Nicholas Bernard James Adam Byrne, Jr., Dublin, 1978), started his career as a professional football player, before joining boyband Westlife. After gaining international success with Westlife, the singer became a popular TV and radio host. In 2016, Nicky Byrne will return to the stage as Ireland’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden. Nicky Byrne is married to Georgina Ahern, the couple have three children, twin sons Jay and Rocco, and daughter Gia.
