RUV, the Icelandic national broadcaster has confirmed its participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

Iceland is the 13th country to confirm its participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.  Iceland will join the party next year along with Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and Ireland.

In 2015 Iceland selected its Eurovision act and entry via its annual national selection. The Icelandic broadcaster has confirmed that it will yet again opt for a national selection in order to select its 2016 Eurovision entry. RUV is expected to reveal more details regarding their 2016 Eurovision national selection by late August/early Septemeber.

In 2015 Iceland competed at the Eurovision Song Contest with Maria Olaf‘s Unbroken. Despite a great performance the country failed to qualify to the grand final.

Iceland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 and is yet to win the event. The country achieved its best placing in the contest in 1999 with Selma and in 2009 with Yohanna, when it placed 2nd in the grand final.
