NRK, the Norwegian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Norway will compete in the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest next year.

Thus Norway is the 8th country to confirm its participation at next year’s Eurovision edition and hence joins Ireland, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Finland and host broadcaster Swedenall whom have confirmed their participation in 2016.

Norway opted for their annual selection MGP in order to select their Eurovision entry and act for Vienna. Mørland & Debrah Scarlett won the 2015 Norwegian national final and were awarded the golden ticket to represent Norway at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with their entry Monster like me. Norway achieved an honorable 8th placing in the grand finale in Vienna.

In 2016 NRK will more than likely opt for MGP in order to select its Eurovision act and entry for Eurovision 2016. The Norwegian broadcaster will release more information on the mechanism and its 2016 Eurovision project in the coming months.

Norway debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 and has won the competition thrice in 1985 with Bobbysocks, in 1995 with Secret Garden and in 2009 with Alexander Rybak. The country has hosted the event 3 times, twice in Oslo (1996,2010) and once in Bergen (1986).

The preliminary dates for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest have been set on 10, 12 and 14 May.
