RTP, Portuguese national broadcaster has announced today that Portugal will select its 2015 Eurovision act and representative via a national selection- Festival da Cançao.

Portugal has had the long tradition of selecting its Eurovision representative and entry via its national song contest – Festival da Cançao. RTP has invited 12 Portuguese composers to submit an entry for the competition. Some of the composers have already taken part in the competition previously. The broadcaster is yet to determine if Festival Da Cançao 2015 will consist of 1 show- a national final or 2 shows (a semifinal and a grand final). More details will be released in due course.

RTP plans to hold the grand final of Festival Da Cançao in early March.

Despite an energetic performance Suzy failed to qualify to the grand final.

Portugal has been competing at the Eurovision Song Contest for 48 years having contributed a total of 46 entries, having missed out on participating in 1970, 2000, 2002 and 2013.

Portugal debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 with Antonio Calvario, and is yet to win the event. Portugal’s best placing at the Eurovision Song Contest has been a 6th placing in 1996 with Lucia Moniz‘s O meu coraçao nao tem cor.
