Roberto Vecchioni won this year's Sanremo festival. The annual Italian extravaganza show took place in the Ariston theatre and a live orchestra accompanied all songs. Vecchioni won the festival with the song Chiamami Ancora Amore.

Ten acts competed in the 61st edition of the Sanremo festival. The show was hosted by the Italian popular singer Gianni Morandi accompanied by Luca, Paolo and the two female beauties Elisabetta Canalis and Belen Rodriguez. Albano placed third (Italy 1976/1985) while Moda & Emma placed second. In the middle of the show Gianni Morandi announced that the winner of the newcomers’ category Raphael Gualazzi will represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest. The special guest of the show was Avril Lavigne.

Vecchioni was born in Carate Brianza, province of Milan. He is a re-owned song writer and penned some songs for Gigliola Cinquetti who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964. The Sanremo festival is a very prestigious festival and the Eurovision Song Contest originated from the Italian festival.
