As esctoday.com previously reported, more than 200 compositions have been sent to Croatian national broadcaster HRT hoping to take part in Dora, the country's national Eurovision Song Contest selection.

The national daily newspaper Jutarnji List has reported that Dora regulars Luka Nietić, Ivana Banfić and Giuliano are the main contenders, whilst Luka Bulić, Klapa Bonaca, Siniša Vucoand theZagorski Plehisti, Teška Industrija, igaand the Bandisti, Saša Lozar, Damir Kedo, Klapa Maslina, Maja Šuput, Angels, Danijel Beni, brother of the 2003 representative Claudija and the 2006 and 2007 runners-up Kraljevi Ulice will also try their luck.

Lyricist Neno Ninčević has sent six songs, all of which mention the word anđeo (angel). He says that if all the songs get through, it will be "the night of my six angels". They are Giuliano, Đani Stipaničev, anamari Lalić, Maja Blagdan (for whom he wrote a song with music by Miro Buljan), Alen Islamović who sings a song with lyrics by Neno and music by Eurovision 1989 winning composerRajko Dujmić, andZorica Konda with music byJoško Banov. The song for Maja Blagdan was submitted on invitation, whilst the others were entered for the public competition.

It is thought that Ante Pecotić will write a song for Ivana Banfić andNeno Belanfor Luka Nietić.

The singer Miroslav Škoro is also rumoured to be submitting an entry, despite the fact that he recently became a MP for the ruling right-wing party HDZ, and is a close friend of the extreme right-wing singer Marko Perković Thompson, whose concerts have been banned in some countries such as the Netherlands due to their Neo-Nazi messages and alleged Nazi salutes. Religious Škoro recently publicly lashed out at the new leader of the left-wing SDP Zoran Milanović who is openly atheist.

Tonči Huljić of Magazin, who has participated in almost every Dora, states that he will not be taking part in 2008: "I really haven't got time for Dora. I'm sick of playing the role of the main'baddie' of the competition. I've got lots to do – the evil tongues can gossip about someone else this year", said the composer, who is currently facing charges of plagiarism.
