Adelaide Ferreira
Paz
Adelaide was born in Minde, Alcanena. She is not a newcomer to the Portuguese music scene and is one of the more mature performers being in her mid fifties. She became a professional actress and joined Group 4 at the Teatrro Aberto in Lisbon. Her roots are in rock music and she started recording a few singles during the late seventies
In 1981 she achieved her first major hit had a hit song called Baby suicida (or Suicide baby).
This is not the first time that Adelaide has participated in the Portuguese selection process. A few years after Baby suicida, in 1985, she won the Festival RTP da Canção with a commanding lead and then took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Gothenburg. The song was titled Penso em ti, eu sei. Unfortunately it did not fare so well there, coming 18th out of 19 entries.
Her Eurovision result did not affect her career. Her passion for ballads continued, but in 1996 she released a rock album. In 1998 her album Só baladas included the song Papel principal which she re-recorded together with famous Portuguese singer Dulce Pontes.
Untypically of many Portuguese artists she is not a performer of fado songs.
The title of her song in English means Peace. It’s a song about the people of the world who are having a hard time.
