ETV, the Estonian broadcaster, announced that a total of 58 songs were received on expiration of the deadline for the 2008 Eurolaul, a number significantly lower than previous years. Four of these entries will be selected by a special jury to proceed to the final together with the six entires by composers commisioned by the broadcaster.
From a record number of 153 sumbissions back in 2004 ETV has since seen a steady decrease in interest for the Eurovision Song Contest preselection from songwriters, reaching a record low of 58 songs this year. From the 58 entries, four will be selected by a special jury to proceed to the country's final on February 2. Six more entries, submitted by songwriters commissioned by the broadcaster will raise the number of finalists to ten.
The successful candidates will be announced in a special show on 30 November and all ten finalists will be presented on 26 January, one week before Eurolaul 2008 on 2nd February.
