The news portal www.alfa.lt published today an article about the upcoming Lithuanian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. Many names familiar to the Eurovision Song Contest are mentioned by the portal�s reporters. Nevertheless, the final line-up will be announced by LRT after 10th December.
It is already known that many popular Lithuanian singers will not participate in this year’s selection. Rūta Ščiogolevaitė, last year’s hot favourite, will give birth to her first baby next January and it is clear that this eventis more important than a song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Another promising Lithuanian singer, Aistė Pilvelytė, who is the number one national final veteran (1999, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007) would have benn be a likely option for Lithuania, but after last year’s third place she has claimed she wouldn’t even try to get a song for the biggest musical event in Europe.
There were many hopes to see Violeta Riaubiškytė trying to win ticket for the Eurovision Song Contest. However, Vilius Tarasovas, Violeta‘s husband and member of B’Avarija (1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006 national finals participants), assures journalists that his wife and him don’t havethe right song for the contest. Popular girl bands YVA and 69 Danguje don’t have such intentions either.Teenagers’ and youth gods from Lithuanian equivalent of Pop Idols Kelias į �vaig�des have finally decided to try to present their songsat aninternational level, though. Vudis, Grūdas and Merūnas arefinalising their songsfor the Eurovision Song Contest. It is claimed thatMerūnas has realistic chances to win because of "older and sentimental TV viewerswho feel a must to vote for the orphan".
www.alfa.lt asks readers to express their opinion about the artist they would love to see in Belgrade. So far Lithuanian music lovers and journalists would pick this year’s Best MTV Baltic singer Jurga Šeduikytė who is the most popular singer in Lithuania these days and host of the national finals in 2005 and 2006 as well.
So far the best result for Lithuania in Eurovision Song Contest was a 6th place in 2006, achieved by LT United with We are the winners.
