Eurodance the 2007 edition of the annual competition for dance songs from all over Europe and the Mediterranean has begun. This year 41 countries are participating, and an interesting lineup of Eurovision Song Contest related names can be found amongst the participants. Every year a panel of disc jockeys and journalists monitors the European and Mediterranean dance scene and selects the best track from every country. The winner is voted by an expert jury, but readers can select their own favourite online as well.
Sakis Rouvas who represented Greece in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest and hosted the contest in Athens in 2006 competes with Ola gyro sou gyrizoun. Ira Losco, the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest runner up for Malta, has been chosen to representher countrywith the Dj Ruby and Mark U-Bahn's remix of Love Me Or Hate Me.
Eurodance 2001 winners and Croatian Dora 1998 participants, dance act Colonia, return this year with Do Kraja which topped Croatian and Slovenian charts. Iceland's 2007representative is Bjartmar Thordarsonwith Vil Annan Dag I Paradis. Bjartmar participated in the 2006 Icelandic semi finals for the Eurovision Song Contest. Lithuania will be represented by one of the country's biggest stars Ruta Sčiogolevaitė with Paskutinis šokis (The last dance). Ruta placed second this year in Eurovizija, the Lithuanian national final.
Two of this year's national final entries make it into the competition. Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix semi finalist Malin Schavenius will represent Norway with the Vasco and Millboy remix of Under Stjernene.The song made it to Norway's second chance round, narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Sweden is represented by Therese who participated with The Attic in this year's Melodifestivalen semi final. Finally Israel will be represented by Henree Feat. Nikka. The duo is hotly tipped to enter the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 and are known to be keen on representing Israel in the future.
Despiona Olympiou has been selected to represent Cyprus with a remix of her song, Pes to dunata. esctoday.com understands that she is currently being courted by her national broadcaster to represent Cyprus in Belgrade in May.
Finally, there is one more name that will ring a bell with Eurofans. Giulia Seigel has been selected to represent Germany with her very first single Dance. Giulia is the daughter of Ralph Siegel who wrote 18 Eurovision Song Contest entries.
