The Germans will pick their Eurovision entry only in the beginning of March but the preparations are in full speed. The wildcard submission period is open until January 9th at 12:00 local time, and so far more than 550 acts have showed their interest in the web portal, in a search for “The Next Lena”.

The best ten acts from the web submission will perform live in the Großen Freiheit 36 club in Hamburg on February 19th. The show’s winner will get a ticket to the German national final that will be held on March 5th at the TUI Arena in Hannover, where the German representative will be chosen. Both shows will be hosted by Barbara Schöneberger, just as last year’s shows.

Ann Sophie currently stands among the favorites in the web portal with her song Get over yourself. Notice that artists are allowed to upload songs which do not meet the regulations of the Eurovision Song Contest, hence cover songs or old songs are acceptable. In case of qualifying, a new song will be produced for the higher levels of the competition.

You can check out all the other submissions, as well as find more informations and buy tickets to the two shows on NDR’s official website here. You can also try your luck and win tickets to the wildcard final (in German)

Elaiza, the girls who represented Germany in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with Is it right did the same way and got into the German final through the wildcard section. Take a look at their wildcard performance again below

As a Big 5 country, Germany will compete directly in the Grand Final of the 60th Eurovision Song Contest on May 23rd.
