In the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest, Portugal was represented in Birmingham by the group Alma Lusa, whose leading voice was Inês Santos. The song ranked 12th place and Inês started her career at one of the biggest musical events in Europe.

Even before going to Eurovision Song Contest, she was the national winner of the “Soundmix show” imitating Sinnead O’Connor in the song “Nothing compares to you”, having even shaved her head to look like Sinnead, as was the purpose of the show. In 2005, she also performed in a musical called “A Canção de Lisboa”, debuting as an actress. The show had more than one million viewers. Currently, she is preparing a new album which will include songs withsongs inspired in traditional portuguese music. She is also a current feature at shows on RTP, singing live backed by an orchestra.

Inês Santos spoke to esctoday.com and shared her memories from almost ten years ago and also her most recent projects. When asked if she would consider joining the contest again, Ines seemed disappointed : "Only if the Eurovision Song Contest went back to be what it was: an interchange of songs and cultures and not a display of vanity, political quarrels and disputes!!" she said.
