Birgitta Haukdal, the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest ambassadress for Iceland, has founded the charity Navia- The Nordic Miracle Group together with Trausti Bjarnason who has written songs for the 2006 and 2007 Icelandic national finals, Bjarney Lúdvíksdóttir and Svanhvít Adalsteinsdóttir.

Navia aims to support sustainable projects in the developing parts of the world through various music related projects, one of them being the creation of a Nordic girl-band. The band, which will have one member from each Nordic country (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland) will tour to raise money for Navia. The band members have not been selected yet but a Danish director has been approached to direct a 13 episode TV show for the band, which will also be named Navia.

“Our dream is to be able to do some good. It is a dream come true if we can work at helping others,” Haukdal told Fréttabladid. The project will be supported by RÚV, True North, the Red Cross and Iceland ExpressIceland review

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
