50 years ago Domenico Modugno, three times Italian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, together with Franco Migliacci co-wrote the most famous Italian song, Nel blu dipinto di blu(Volare) .Tomorrow 10th of July a tribute concert to Domenico Modugno will be held in Benevento, Italy and artists will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the birth of this song. The event takes place at the Roman Theatre of the city and will be broadcasted on 13th of July by RAI, the Italian national broadcaster.

Domenico Modugno (1928-1994) participated in the Eurovision Song Contest three times (in ’58, ’59 and 66). He achieved the best result in the contest in ’58, when he performed Nel blu dipinto di blu, better known worldwide as Volare, ending 3rd. The song reached the top of the charts all over the world, even number one in the United States of America, an achievement that would never be repeated again by any entry of the Eurovision Song Contest. It was voted as the second favorite entry in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest at the 50th anniversary concert in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2005. When Benny Andersson of ABBA received the prize he commented: "I myself voted for "Volare". The song has been covered innumerous times over the years.

Tomorrow, 10th of July a tribute concert to Domenico Modugno celebrates 50 years of the most famous Italian song. The event takes place at the Roman Theatre of Benevento, in Italy. Three days later, on 13th July at 21:20 CET the national broadcaster, RAI, will broadcast the show.

On stage Gigliola Cinquetti will perform some songs of Domenico Modugno. Gigliola Cinquetti has participated twice in Eurovision Song Contest, winning it the very first time in 1964, with the song Non ho l’età and ended 2nd in 1974 with the song . In 1991 she was the female host of the contest, which took place in Rome, Italy.
