This years’ winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, Conchita Wurst from Austria, has won an Attitude Award in London, the United Kingdom.
Conchita Wurst won the award in the category Moment of the Year, referring to her victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. The Austrian drag artist was presented with the award at the ceremony in London, receiving the award from the hands of celebrity chef Nigella Lawson.
In an interview with BBC News, Conchita said she is still not used to winning: “I embrace it and I really love every day, but I still can’t believe it!” She sees it as the greatest gift an artist can receive that people feel inspired by her and take benefit from what she does. She also said that although she would like to win a Grammy Award some day, because she always works toward a great goal, on the way to achieving this goal she might even receive better things. The Attitude Magazine Awards are handed out by British gay lifestyle magazine Attitude.
Conchita Wurst is the alter ego of Austrian singer and drag artist Thomas Neuwirth. Conchita won the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with her song Rise Like A Phoenix, earning a total of 290 points in the grand final.
