Malta: 6 Nuns amongst MESC submissions

Last week, the Maltese national broadcaster PBS announced the 48 entries who made it to the second phase of the Maltese national selection. Amongst the shortlisted songs, one could find an entry submitted by 6 Ursuline nuns!

The nuns live at the Sliema convent and they take care of young children. In fact the song that they’re competing with Love and let go is about bringing up the children and taking care of them and eventually having to let go when they grow up.

In August, they have been approached by well known Maltese songwriter Philip Vella and asked them if they wanted to collaborate with him on a song for the Malta Eurovision. They first had to ask the Archbishop of Malta for permission to participate! He accepted their request as he believes in Pope Francis’ word of evangelising with modern mediums.

The news that 6 nuns are competing at the Malta Eurovision 2015 made the Austrian and Swiss media, not mentioning that it headlined almost every Maltese online news portal.

We will know if the nuns will make it to the final 20 or not this Friday 3rd October, where this year’s finalists will be known on the show Xarabank.

The Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015 will be stage at the Marsa Shipbuilding on the 21st and 22nd November 2014.
