The winner's tour: Rejuvanating the West?

As the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Marija Serifovic will take the seat as guest of honour on the first ever official Eurovision Song Contest winners tour! The tour will start in Denmark this Wednesday before moving onto Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands Greece and Germany.

With the exception of Greece, all other countries that the tour will visit failed to reach a position that had been expected of them this year in the Eurovision Song Contest and are 'Western countries'. Greece qualified for next year's final in seventh place, Spain and Germany are automatically qualified. Sweden fell out of the final this year and the Netherlands did not qualify.

There was mixed public support for Marija from all countries, scoring 6 points from Denmark, 1 from Spain, 10 from Sweden, 8 from the Netherlands, 4 from Greece and 8 from Germany. Although all countries voted for Molitva, none of the countries awarded the song it's top marks.

It is hoped that the winners' tour will help the Eurovision Song Contest's reputation in those countries, and where criticism of the voting patterns has occurred, Marija will have another chance to prove that she is a truly worthy winner of the Eurovision Song Contest.

esctoday.com will of course be covering the whole of the winners tour, so stay tuned for more.
