The French representatives in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest will take part in the fourth edition of the festival Le Vieux Canal.

Le Vieux canal is a festival intended to support the promotion of music in rural areas in France. The fourth festival will be held on 30 August in Azérailles, in the Lorraine region. Ten acts are scheduled for the occasion.

The band that represented France in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, Les Fatal Picards, is one of those ten.

When they sang in Helsinki the audience had a taste of the band’s humoristic style, which is basically one of their trademarks. Actually, Les Fatals Picards describe themselves as a pop-for-dummies band. Many of their songs are parodies, not only of other artists; they have also made their own versions of TV-series credit tunes.

Other targets of their satiric lyrics are the record labels and their struggle against piracy. On this regard, the French press seems to never forget their very derisive statement if you copy my CDs it’s like you kill baby kittens.

The public attending Le Vieux Canal will have the opportunity to enjoy the music and the laughter with Les Fatals Picards. The performances are scheduled to start at 16:30 CET on 30 August. More information is available in the event’s website (in French).

Les Fatals Picards sang L’amour à la française for France in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki, Finland (wearing Jean-Paul Gaultier).
