The Israelian newspaper Yediot Ahronot wrote an article last week that stated that Estonia did not win the contest because of the song. “Estonia won to give the country and its people some encouragement for joining the European Union soon”, journalist Gal Wagner wrote.
Dr. Dafna Lamish from the Tel-Aviv University was in Copenhagen during the rehearsal week. She is conducting a research about Eurovision and the European identity. “The whole week the rumor was in the Eurovision circles that Estonia will be the winner in order to encourage the country to join the European Union. It is a political lobby for the purpose of getting Estonia in, and through Estonia to get to Russia in the long run”, Dr. Lamish said.
Fans reacted angry at the mailing lists about the contest. One of them was sure that Estonia”s victory was legally. “I think that “Everybody” struck a chord with the televoter. Up tempo, catchy, slightly familiar – and break dancing which appealed to several younger people I have spoken with who actually watched the whole show”, he said. Another fan asked the question “how you can influence all the televoters? Or is the televote system partly fake, which I really do believe, and decides the EBU who is the next Eurovision winner”.
Many people are more and more convinced that the EBU has got more influence on the out coming of the contest than they say they have. Strange, because the EBU spends a lot of money to “convince” the fans. This year, Deloitte & Touche was present at the Parken Stadium to check if the system was fair. The fans who do not believe that Estonia won fair, should take a look at the polls. Last year, nobody could ever think that the Olsen Brothers would won the contest. In the polls they didn”t even had a top 10 position, just like Estonia this year. “If the EBU had decided that Estonia would win, how could they”ve done that if they knew that Estonia might have not enough money. If the rumors written in the Israelian newspaper were true, Estonia would be prepared. They were not”, one of the fans said…
