TRT is expected to announce its plans regarding Turkey's participation in next year's ESC latest by the second week of September.
According to the information obtained from the Music Department of TRT, officials are expected to hold a meeting in order to discuss the course of action that will be taken regarding Turkey's participation in next year's competition. The announcement is expected to be made latest by September 15th.
It is speculated that TRT is considering to ask a specific artist to compose the entry or ask a performer, who is currently more popular in Turkey (compared to recent years' Turkish Eurovision performers), to perform the entry. In the past, TRT selected the Turkish entry by making a public announcement in August, which specified a time period for entries to be submitted, followed by a national final held in February with 5-10 finalist entries competing. The songs were selected by a jury.
Now that televoting is a requirement for all countries, it is also a matter of curiosity whether TRT will accept this requirement. Turkey is still in the list of countries that use the jury system both during the national and the Eurovision final. While the ESC Final jury consists of both musicians and the people from general public, the national final jury consists mainly of officials from TRT.
Last year, during the Turkish delegation's press conference held prior to the ESC night, when a press member attending the conference asked a question regarding why televoting still does not exist in Turkey, a TRT representative said that the broadcaster was not ready for implementing the televoting system because of technical inadequacy.
