Softengine formed in the summer of 2011 with lead singer Topi Latukka. Since then, the band has seen a number of changes, played a number of venues, and achieving success in band competitions throughout Finland; but nothing as accomplished as winning the vote to represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The band completed and recorded their entry Something better days before the deadline of the Finnish national selection Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2014 (UMK), where they ultimately won the national final with top marks from both the jury and public voting, securing their spot on the stage in Copenhagen.

The current band members include lead vocalist Topi Latukka, Ossi Mäkelä, Eero Keskinen, Henri Oskár, and Tuomo Alarinta. The group will take the stage on 8 May for the second semi-final to perform their rock-inspired track Something better.
