Switzerland are the new favourites to win the Eurovision Song Contest according to many of the leading bookmarkers. The odds on DJ BoBo being crowned Switzerland's third winner are still falling, with 5/1 being offered by Paddy Power and VC Bet, and 6/1 with William Hill. Sweden's odds continue to grow, they are now rated as 7/1 by William Hill and 15/2 by VC Bet. VC bet are also offering 50/1 that Terry Wogan will announce the wrong country as the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest!
As the market moves continue, there are some interesting stories developing in the Eurovision Song Contest betting markets. The news will increase the confidence of the Swiss, who have steadily climbed to the top of the betting charts, but Portuguese fans will be worried that their odds are in decline. They are now rated as 500/1 least likely to win by Betfair, who have Montenegro at 400/1 and Albania at 350/1 along with Belgium and Croatia.
Betfair are also taking bets on the semi final, where they believe Serbia (1.24/1), Switzerland (1.33/1), Turkey (1.36/1 )and Belarus (1.4/1) are certainties for the Saturday 12th May final in Helskinki. This shows that betting companies are starting to get wise to the political / diaspora voting that effects semi final qualification. FYR Macedonia are 1.71/1 to qualify (7th favourites) yet ranked in 26th place overall as possible winners of the whole competition, far behind many countries that are less favoured to qualify for the final, such as Denmark and Bulgaria.
For those who do not take Eurovision betting so seriously, VC Bet are taking bets at 50/1 that Terry Wogan will make another mistake and declare the wrong winners at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest.
