Last Saturday, ten acts stormed the stage at the Arena Fyn in Odense, Denmark as part of the Danish Melodi Grand Prix. In the end, Basim took the crown, securing his place at the Eurovision Song Contest. But he’s not the only one enjoying success after the event.

Confirming the popularity of the event, some of the acts from the Melodi Grand Prix are enjoying success in the Danish singles and album charts. Basim’s Cliche love song has gone straight to #2 on the singles chart, along with a #3 placing on the iTunes Singles Charts in Denmark, and over half a million views of his winning performance on DR’s YouTube channel.

Michael Runes’s song Wanna be loved is currently sitting at #9 on the singles chart, and Rebekah Thornbech’s debut album “So Be It” achieved a first-week place of #12 in the digital album charts.

The “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2014” compilation album has also reached a top placing of #7 on the album charts, and #1 on the digital album charts.

Emmelie is back!

The event also featured a performance from last year’s Eurovision Song Contest winner Emmelie de Forest who performed her new single Rainmaker, the official anthem of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. The single debuted two weeks ago at #31 on the singles charts. After her performance, on the show, her placing shot to #17. Her single is currently #4 on the iTunes singles chart in Denmark.

As the host country of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark directly qualifies for the Grand Final on 10 May.
