The deadline for wildcard applications for the German national selection just expired. The eighth German candidate for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will be picked from a very long list.
Last November, the German broadcaster NDR announced that a wildcard would be awarded to a new artist for the country’s national selection, Unser Song für Dänemark. The deadline expired on 22 January and the result of the initiative is 2240 applications received. Encouraged by the artist Adel Tawil, the entrants could upload their performances to YouTube.
The ten best acts of the 2240 shall be selected by representatives of NDR, the company Brainpool, the labels Sony, Universal and Warner for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 – Unser Song für Dänemark: Clubkonzert that will be held in Hamburg on 27 February. The event will be broadcast live by NDR and through the websites eurovision.de and eurovision.tv. It will be host by Barbara Schöneberger, with Janin Reinhardt in the green room. The audience will choose the winner of the wildcard through their votes.
The German entry for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will be chosen by the viewers of Unser Song für Dänemark, which will be broadcast by the German channel Das Erste from Cologne’s Lanxess-Arena at 20:15 CET on 13 March. Seven acts have already been confirmed: Das Gezeichnete Ich, Madeline Juno, MarieMarie, Oceana, Santiano, The Baseballs and Unheilig.
Germany is a founder of the Eurovision Song Contest and it has won it twice. No other country beats Germany’s participation tally.
