Day two of the Malta Song for Europe festival started perfectly in time this morning. The camera and technical crews are working hard to ensure the most professional final that Malta has yet seen at its first year in the its new home, the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre.
You can read the reports on the rehearsals from Day two below, or click on the names and song titles to watch a rehearsal video courtesy of partner site www.escmalta.com. From these fourteen acts, six will progress to the Malta Song for Europe final on Super Saturday 3rd February.
Klinsmann Coleiro – She Gives Me Wings
Klinsmann is on stage together with another young drummer and a young guitarist. One can say that this song has one of the most interesting visualisations on screen so far. The screen shows in animation a young boy and a girl falling in love with different hearts all around. Klinsmann gave quite a good performance of his song.
Julie Pomorsky – Look At Me
The song starts with Julie on a swing full of flowers. The background screen shows purple and pink, whilst red is used on stage. Julie gave a vocally powerful rehearsal today. So far today no sound problems are being experienced again, which makes this one of the best years for sound and lighting.
Daniela Delicata – Little Islands In Your Heart
Daniela is on stage alone, with a guitar in her hand. She starts off the song sitting down, whilst mid-way through the song she stands up and continues the song in this manner. As background we get different stars, which at some point also get an additional background…sea, birds and sky.
Pamela – All About A Life
Pamela has been joined on stage by another four singers who will also be singing LIVE. These singers include the composer of the song Paul Giordimaina, Nadine Axisa, Fiona and Andrew Zammit. The colours used on the screen are once again gold. The 5 voices have complemented each other perfectly. All backing singers start out sitting down on stools but at the end join Pamela at the centre of the stage.
SCAR – As Long As You Know
The Maltese rock group SCAR, went on stage right after the break with their song As Long As You Know. Konrad Pule is accompanied on stage by the whole group. The screens show different coloured boxes and sky scrapers. It is the first time that SCAR are participating as a group, however it is Konrad's third time. Besides being the lead singer of the group, Konrad is also the author and composer of the song.
Isabelle – My Love
Isabelle's powerful voice was next on stage with her ballad My Love. During the song the lights were red and yellow, whilst the screens showed blue circles at first and mid-way through the screens turn to different coloured flowers.Isabelle is also alone on stage yet that works to her advantage, many think that this can surprise the field and win Malta's ticket to Helsinki.
Mauro Kitcher – Unite
Mauro was on stage together with 4 backing vocalists and a female dancer dressed as a peace dove. The song sounds a bit different than the way it was heard during the Opportunity 2 challenge. On screen the visualisations during this song show a globe once again in gold.
Trilogy – Starlight
The trio gave a good rendition of their song starlight with a strong vocal performance. The boys start off at the sides, whilst Eleanor starts the song at the far end of the stage and moves towards the centre during the song intro. Roger is next to walk towards Eleanor whilst he sings his first verses and then its Daniel's turn during the first chorus. The background is quite dark with shooting stars on screen.
AnnaBelle – Night-Wish
AnnaBelle is alone on stage. As last year she has a simple performance with great stage presence. On the screens one sees an enormous full moon. This song comes out very well and ended our second day of rehearsals.
