A few days ago, France 3, the French national broadcaster, revealed the 3 names that made it to the final of their national selection. One of the songwriting teams behind one of the entries is made up of Maltese songwriters.
The entry is Ma liberté sung by Joanna Lagrave and the team behind it is none other than popular Maltese songwriting duo Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg along with Sean Vella (who is Philip’s son). French lyrics are by Yann Guillon.
Philip and Gerard have written 5 of the past Maltese representatives’ songs including Ira Losco‘s 7th Wonder. This year, for the Maltese national final they have written 2 songs together and another one co-written with Chris Grech.
Competing with Joanna Lagrave‘s Ma liberté in the French national final are Destan and his song Sans toi and Twin Twin with Moustache. The 3 songs have been chosen by a fourteen member jury panel and the finalists will be given full promotion on the French channels.
The presentation show will take place on 26th January. The winner will be announced the following week on 2nd March on the show Les Chansons D’Abord.
