Portugal: Composers announced

RTP has revealed the names of the composers whose songs will take part in the 2007 Festival da Canção, the Portuguese final on Friday March 2nd, at 9 pm, at the United Estudios, in Lisbon. There will be ten songs again, this year each by a different composer.

Seems like RTP decided to slightly change last year's procedure. After a poor result for the 2006 Portuguese entry, in 2007 there will be 10 runner up composers with an entry each to impress the European audiences. Portuguese schlager, veterans andnewbees showinga range of composers like hasn't been seen in Portuguese preselections for the Eurovision Song Contest for a long time now. The ten composers are:

Elvis VeiguinhaCoisas de nada ( Portugal 2006) and Na noite és Tu e eu ( Portuguese finalist 2006)
Emanuel – so called King of Pimba, a kind of Portuguese schlager
Fernando Martins – musician, TV host
João Barbosa – aka Lil John producer of the group Buraka Som Sistema
José Cid – Portugal 1980 ( Um grande, grande amor) and 1998 ( composer and member of Alma Lusa)
Luís Jardim – jury of the Portuguese version of Idols
Luís Oliveira Alma Nova and Durmo Com Pedras Na Cama (Portuguese finalists 2006 )
Nuno Carvalho – owner of NZ Productions that launched several famous pop groups in Portugal including the boys bands Anjos and Excesso
Nuno Feist
– known musician and once memberr of a duo with his well-knownbrother Henrique Feist
Ramon Galarza – produced As Minhas Guitarras and Nunca Mais Te Digo Adeus ( Portuguese finalists 2006 )

Portugal participates in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1964 and the best result achieved so far was a 6th place in Oslo, by Lúcia Moniz, with O Meu Coração Não Tem Cor, back in 1996.
