Ukraine maintained their excellent record showing at Eurovision by sending Ani Lorak to represent them in Belgrade. She was resembled something of an Amazonian goddess possessing such an incredible stage presence that she would command Europe to submit to her track Shady Lady. Charlotte Perrelli stated that she felt she had the better song with Hero.  This was probably the case but such was the energy and vivacity of Lorak’s performance that she finished the grand final in 2nd place. Eurovision tastes were changing and the old guard had to make way for a more modern sound and look at the contest.
