Irish broadcaster RTE has received a little over 200 songs for the upcoming Late Late Show Eurovision special, where Dervish will perform four songs for the public to choose from as their entry for the 207 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki.
RTE put out a request for entries that would be suitable both for the Dervish style of traditional Irish music, and that would also fit the Eurovision Song Contest.
Doteurovision also report that Dervish lead singer, Cathy Jordan, said in a television interview that Dervish are looking forward to representing Ireland in Helsinki. She pointed out that they would not be phased by the prospect, having already played in front of a 300,000 strong crowd in Rio de Janeiro.
Ireland are directly qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest final this year to Brian Kennedy's 10th place finish in Athens last year. It's their first automatic qualification since Chris Doran's If my world stopped turning in 2004.
