It was a slightly quirky kind modern sound they wanted at the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest and finally the British invasion had arrived in the form of chart topping international pop star Sandie Shaw with the UK’s first ever wining song, Puppet on a string. Okay not exactly rock and roll but she did throw caution to the wind and not wear shoes in a nod to the flower power generation of the 60’s love generation.
