Michalis Chatzigiannis, the popular Cypriot superstar, who represented Cyprus back in 1998, talked to Love Radio, the Greek radio station about the rumours presenting him to be the composer of the next Greek entry. Michalis is one of the best loved young artists both in Greece and Cyprus and there are many who would like to see him in Helsinki.

Michalis said: “I am not sure yet, there has been an “official-unofficial” proposal from ERT, if it becomes official I will compose the song and write the lyrics. I already have something in mind but no song is ready. It will be a song in English, though.”

Michalis is not sure about the procedure ERT will follow and he feels that there have been proposals to other artists as well. Something he doesn’t mind at all. As far as he is concerned everything is open.

He continued to say that there are two ways to go, either make a “Eurovision like” song which is the safe approach, or try for something completely new and revolutionary. "I wouldn’t go for the second option, though" he concluded.

Michalis does not discuss the possibility of performing the song himself for Greece. As for Cyprus he said there hasn’t been a proposal at all. “Anyway” Michalis said, “everything, including the song or songs, must be ready in the next 10 days, so we’ll soon know”.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
