Fanny Biascamano, who represented France in Dublin in 1997 with Sentiments, songes may have missed a great comeback opportunity in the music industry. It was reported that the singer was contacted to take part in the castings of the 3rd season of the very popular talent show The Voice in France but failed to impress the juries thus not making it for the next stage of the contest which could have brought her back to the spotlights.
Born in the Southern French city of Sète, Fanny shot to fame in the early 1990’s at the mere age of 12 years old thanks to a TV talent show and a very dynamic rendition of Edith Piaf‘s L’homme à la moto (see here). After two albums, Fanny and Chanteuse populaire, and over 3 million records sold, the young singer went on to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 1997, reaching an honorable 7th place. Shortly after her Eurovision experience, Fanny chose to focus more on her studies but kept on performing.
As from 2007, Fanny started working hard on her comeback, taking part in different music projects and touring France and the world (Europe, Morocco, Brazil, the USA, etc.) with a tribute show based on the songs of Edith Piaf which gave birth to the live album Fanny chante Piaf. In 2010, Fanny also published her first book Enfants stars, plus dure sera la chute in which she reviews her child star career and puts in perspective the life of many other famous former children stars.
Contacted this year by the production of The Voice to take part in the castings of the 3rd season of the French version of the show, Fanny was given the opportunity to make a remarkable comeback. People would have been curious to re-discover the 34 year-old singer, 20 years after her breakthrough in the music industry. But it will not happen as it seems that none of the 4 juries were impressed enough by her vocal abilities without denying her talent however. Fanny is already the second former Eurovision participant to fail in the first series of castings of the show this year as the 1999 French entrant Nayah also did not make it. Whether TF1 will broadcast or not their performances is still unknown, we will find out when the show starts early next year.
