Belgian fans can expect details of their national song for Helsinki to be released around February 2007, according to the Belgian Head of Delegation for French language broadcaster RTBF. However, as already suggested, it has been confirmed that there will be no national final, and the song will instead be selected internally some time in January.

Head of Delegation, Leslie Cable, also laid to rest rumours that French-speaking Belgian officials would only be considering a group for Helsinki. She confirmed 'also a male or female singer is possible', stressing also that Belgian artists will most certainly be preferred above foreign hopefuls with an eye on representing the country. Already, judges have been sifting through material including entries from Poland and Sweden, although a suitable song has not been found yet.

Due to Kate Ryan's shock non-qualification at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Belgium finds itself in the semifinal once again in 2007, facing what could be the largest number of countries yet in the qualifier stage of the contest.
